The Lanchester Trust is seeking to engineer and construct a replica of the 1895 Lanchester Phaeton, Britain’s first petrol engine four wheel motor car. The original car was lost in the Coventry Blitz. Given the difficulty of engineering a replica two cylinder engine and associated drivetrain, the car would be electrically powered. Fred was involved at an early stage in electrical propulsion, producing Europe’s first hybrid “petroelectric” car in 1927
