Lanchester Trust and Stourbridge Lion 2029 Collaboration

The Stourbridge Lion 2029 project is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company whose aim is to build a replica of the 1829 Lion Locomotive.  Built in 1829 by Foster, Rastrick & Company in Stourbridge, England, it was the first steam locomotive to run on commercial railway track in the United States of America.

Running alongside the project to build the replica locomotive, Stourbridge Lion 2029 is committed to promoting local skills and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) education, businesses and supporting communities through the legacy of the original 1829 Lion locomotive.

The Lanchester Trust is partnering with Stourbridge Lion 2029 in co-funding a number of STEAM outreach primary schools’ projects in the Midlands area. This is a great fit for the trust and will provide valuable experience in how heritage organisations can leverage their legacy and story to promote in our case science, engineering and innovation across a broad age range.
